Instagram | Adding "grid" into IG's terminology
User problem: There is no word to refer to the area below someone's Instagram profile header where an account's posts are displayed. When we want to direct our users to this part of their profile, we have no simple word to use, and "area below someone's profile header" is awkward.

UX Research
I collaborated with a UX researcher to present the potential names to users. This was conducted over video chat.
Learnings
The UX research concluded that "grid" would be the best term. From there, I consulted other content designers on how this may affect their work. I discovered that another content designer wanted a name to refer to this surface and had already been using "grid."
Learnings
I made deck presenting the findings to Instagram's content design leadership and management team. They approved "grid" as the official name for this surface.
Final steps
I submitted "grid" to localization and added "grid" to our internal dictionary.
Impact: Other content designers can use the term "grid" in their copy to refer to this surface. Previously "grid" was deprecated in our internal dictionary. Now, there is official guidance on when and how to use "grid."
